The Ultimate Guide to Choosing Art as a Gift.

Choosing art as a gift is one of the most meaningful, personal, and lasting ways to show someone you care. Whether it’s a soulful wildlife print, a bespoke pet portrait, or a statement landscape for their home, art brings emotion, memory and storytelling together in a way no other gift can.

If you've ever wondered how to choose the right piece, something they'll treasure for years, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know, with tips based on my own collections of British Wildlife, American Mustangs, landscapes and pet commissions.

 1. Think About the Story Behind the Art

Art becomes unforgettable when it carries a story, a memory, a place, a shared moment, or a connection to animals and nature.

Maybe they...

  • adore British Wildlife

  • ride or love horses

  • fell in love with Yorkshire on a holiday

  • are passionate about conservation

  • have a pet that means the world to them

A great rule of thumb: choose something that reflects a piece of their heart, not just their home decor.

2. Choose Something That Matches Their Personality

Art gifting becomes easier when you think in terms of personality types:

The Nature Lover

Go for calming landscapes or woodland wildlife.

The Animal Obsessed

A fine art wildlife print or a meaningful pet portrait is perfect.

The Bold Statement Maker

Choose a dramatic mustang piece or a large original with movement and emotion.

The Sentimental Soul

Personalised art, especially pet portraits, hits differently!

3. Consider Their Space (even if you've never been to their home!)

Think about:

Light colours - softer wildlife pieces work beautifully.

Bold or modern interiors - dynamic mustangs, strong landscapes or big statement pieces work well.

Cosy Cottages - woodland creatures and British wildlife.

Large Blank Walls - Large statement originals or large prints.

Small reading corners or hallways - small prints or mini originals.

4. Art with Purpose Makes the Gift Even More Special.

Many of my collections directly support conservation charities, from American Mustang rescues, British Hedgehog Sanctuaries and Global Charities linked to Explorers Against Extinction.

So your gift doesn't just look beautiful...it helps protect the animals who inspired it.

5. If You're Not Sure What to Choose, go for a Gift Voucher or e-Gift Card.

Gift vouchers and e-gift cards take away all the guesswork while still giving something meaningful and thoughtful, it also allows the recipient to get involved with the process of choosing their art.

They're perfect for:

Last minute giving

Letting someone choose their favourite piece

Being involved in the commission process

surprising someone with the promise of a commissioned piece.

6. Commissioning Pet, Equine or landscape art as a Gift.

A bespoke piece of art is one of the most emotional gifts you can give. It could be their beloved pet, special place or partner in crime ( equine!). Nothing beats receiving such a personal gift. People cry ( in a good way!) when they open them, its always such a special moment.

Top tips if commissioning as a gift:

Book Early - I have limited availability and my slots often fill up months ahead.

Good reference images - use Clear, well-lit photos with a high resolution.

Tell me the story behind the gift - what is special about that view, what is the personality of their pet.

Allow for framing up if required - framers are usually very busy, especially at Christmas, so you may need to allow 3-4 weeks on top of the piece being completed.

Keep it a secret if you can - the surprise is priceless!

All my commission slots are fully booked up for Christmas now, only e-Gift Cards or Vouchers are available.

I have opened up my 2026 slots already, due to demand, I have a limited number for the year therefore, if you are interested, it's best to book early to avoid disappointment.

7. Add the Finishing Touches

A beautiful piece of art deserves a thoughtful presentation.

Consider:

A handwritten card.

A conservation message.

Framing advice or a recommended framer.

Your reason for choosing that particular piece.

Thoughtful gift wrapping - Special Gift wrapping is available upon request, for an extra charge. (All artwork is packaged safely and securely, with an outer covering of white tissue and business labeling as standard)

8. Why Art Makes a Powerful Gift

Art lasts a lifetime, long after the candles burn out and the chocolates are gone.

It becomes:

Part of their home

Part of their story

Part of their emotional landscape

Something to pass down

Gifting art is thoughtful, meaningful, purposeful , memorable...and personal.

If you do decide t gift from any of my collections, you're also gifting a piece of nature, a piece of Yorkshire, and in many cases, a piece of conservation too.
