frequently asked questions

about prints

Will my fine art print be mounted?

No.  To give complete flexibility with mounting and framing, all fine art prints are supplied unmounted.  Each print is carefully wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and delivered securely in a protective tube.

Are the print sizes listed on the website the only ones available?

No. While the listed sizes are the most popular, additional sizes can often be arranged.  Please contact us with your requirements.

Are all the prints limited edition?

No. Only selected prints are released as limited editions.  Each limited edition is clearly marked in the print title and description so you can easily identify them.

What materials are used for the prints?

Archival quality, pigment-based inks are used on Innova Soft Textured Natural White 315gsm paper.

Why are limited edition prints more expensive even though they are the same size as non-limited edition prints?

Limited edition prints are more expensive because only a set number are produced, making them rarer and more collectable than open prints.  Each print is individually numbered and signed by Vicky, which adds to its authenticity and value.  Once the edition sells out, no more are made.

Limited edition print No 1 is considered more valuable because it is the first in the print edition.  Buyers and collectors view this print as more desirable, giving it added rarity and value.

about original art work

Are all original art work pieces framed?

No.  Most original pieces are sold unframed, giving you the freedom to choose your own style of framing.    Some originals are box canvases and come unframed, but you may add a frame later if you wish.

Where a piece is sold framed, this will be clearly stated in the product description.

What surface do you use for your original paintings?

For smaller paintings, high-quality cotton canvas boards are used, as these are typically intended to be framed (unless requested otherwise). Larger paintings are created on wooden-framed block canvases; a shallow depth is used if the piece is likely to be framed, while a deeper edge is chosen when the sides are painted, allowing the artwork to be displayed unframed.

The  specifics of each painting are clearly stated in the product description.

What medium (type of paint) do you use?

Vicky's preferred medium is acrylic, using only quality, highly pigmented paint to achieve depth and vibrancy.  She is also happy to work in gouache upon request.

Do you work in coloured pencil or pastel?

Yes.  Vicky has work in her portfolio that are done in graphite pencil, pastel and also coloured pencil.  She also is happy to work in these mediums upon request.

about commissions

How long does a commission take?

The timeframe for commissions really depends on the size of the piece and the complexity of the subject.  On average, once Vicky begins painting, most commissions take around 4-6 weeks to complete.  The timeframe would be discussed when you book and you would be kept updated with progress throughout.

Do you work from photographs?

Yes.  Vicky usually works from photographs, which makes it easier for clients who live further away.  If needed, she is visit to take her own photos (£15 within 10 miles, plus mileage up to a maximum of 50 miles)

Vicky is happy to guide you on the type of photos she needs, and a selection of images is always helpful for capturing your pets personality.

can I have more than one pet in a picture?

Yes. It is possible to have more than one pet in a painting.  If they aren't in the same photo, Vicky can combine images, though this is more complex and works best with clear, good-quality photos.

Vicky will guide you on what's possible and what will look best.  Please note, each additional subject adds 20% to the cost.

Can details be taken out when my pet is painted, for example a lead or collar?

Yes.  It is possible to remove details such as a led or collar from a photo when creating your painting.  This does add to the challenge, and sometimes Vicky may need extra photos to help me accurately capture the details behind the item that is being taken away.

Will my commission be framed up?

No. Vicky does not usually frame up commissioned work, as this gives you the freedom to choose a frame that suits your space and also makes posting easier and less expensive.

If you would like your painting framed, this can be arranged at an additional cost (dependent on framing choices). Please note it may delay completion by up to 3 weeks depending on the framer's schedule.
